JOHN HASKIN: Unlawful harassment by coworkers or supervisors can be based upon your age, your gender, your race, your nation origin, a disability, even your religion.

Harassment affects an employee's work performance because it creates an intimidating hostile work environment. Sexual harassment is the most common form of harassment at the workplace. It includes unwelcome sexual comments, unwelcome physical touching and should be reported immediately.

Employees are afraid to come forward, especially when it's their supervisor that's harassing them because they are afraid of retaliation. If an employee has been punished for complaining about harassment, that employee does have a claim for retaliation.

If you believe you are being harassed at the workplace, you are to consult your employer's handbook. At that time, the employer is to investigate and take reasonable remedial action to protect you. If that fails, you need to call me. When you're being harassed, stand your ground and let us obtain the remedy that you deserve.
